Don’t worry NYFW goers it is almost over.
It is almost time to put down your travel flats and stylish high heels…
Your notebooks, laptops, and tablets.
It is time to rehydrate and stop gulping down coffee.
As with pain…exhaustion is beauty. And so is fashion week.
For those few that will move on and continue the journey.
Italy, France, London, Australia, and Japan.
Godspeed to you strong gals with even stronger calves.
Without you fashion would surely peter out.
As with pain…exhaustion is beauty. And so is fashion week.

This is now one of the faces of fashion week. Whether Susie likes it or not she represents an evolution of the fashion week process. Why are we, hyper fashion/style conscious obsessed with Fashion Week? For those not directly working in the fashion industry we scrimp and save to stay for the long haul. All seven days of the surprisingly grueling business conference in which lives can be changed. Now more that ever has it become an important symbol of your credibility if you talk about fashion and have been to fashion week. As a fashion blogger I, and others, are pressured to attend IFB conference. For those that do not know what the conference is about please read my piece on the IFB conference coming up next week! There are so many negative things that are said about the vanity of Fashion Week. But more so than ever before the world is starting to understand its significance.
Betsey Johnson 1980 Spring Fashion Show
Fashion week was an innovation of sorts that started in the 50s as a way to gather fashion elite to observe the fashions up close and on a moving model. This platform quickly became a way in which buyers and magazine editors/ writers could observe and purchase items. This was a big deal! Now the world of fashion was given to a receptive audience who could then touch and critique an item after it had just walked the runway. This experience and innovation has recently been trumped by the access of couture and other high fashion goods to the general public after the runway show. But these two processes have opened up a better understanding of what we know today as a fashion week.
Fashion week by far is one of the most bitter sweet experiences I have ever partaken in. Over and over again I subject myself to little sleep, uncomfortable shoes, and stressful schedules. It is all for the love of getting to know the business and to talk with people in the industry. These past two seasons however I decided not to give into the typical pressures but I had an excuse: Life got in the way. This isn’t a bad thing, good things happen to those that are patient. I have allowed myself to be patient enough to review my love of fashion on different levels and now I will be taking on another side of the business all together.
